35,000 images donated for oral pathology training

The American Dental Association reports that a retiring professor is donating over 35,000 images to form a dental school database of clinical oral pathology images. Your Jacksonville dentist Dr. Tiffany Shields is well-equipped to diagnose abnormalities in the oral cavity and supports the effort to expand training for students still in dental school.

The database is a set of images collected over a professor’s 38-year career and chronicling issues such as cold sores, anemia, and HIV. Differentiating between various oral abnormalities that can often start with a similar appearance requires skill and experience. The new image repository also includes case histories, as some images chronicle the course of treatment over twenty years or more.

Dr. Shields has successfully diagnosed conditions in their earliest stages, saving patients from greater long-term damage or providing early detection and treatment for oral cancers. If you’re interested in an oral exam and phrophylaxis, contact your experienced diagnostician Dr. Shields today!
